Marmaris unfolds
Turkish hospitality for MSC 07/11/2009
Passengers on MSC Splendida got the full Turkish hospitality treatment
during the vessel’s maiden call in Marmaris on Friday.
Marmaris Cruise Port created a complimentary mini Turkish bazaar on the pier for
the passengers to wander through as they disembarked, including a traditional
Turkish carpet weaving stall with local handicrafts on show, a baklava stall,
traditional Turkish ice-cream and honey doughnuts, a Turkish coffee stand, free
souvenirs, brochures, city maps and posters of Marmaris as well as entertainment
in the form of a children’s folklore dance troupe, Turkish music and even a
whirling Dervish.
Later, the master of MSC Splendida was presented with a plaque and a custom-made
traditional Turkish ceramic plate to commemorate the visit.
MSC Splendida returns to Marmaris on December 15, completing the port’s 2009
season.
In 2010, Thomson Celebration will homeport, accounting for 26 turnarounds of the
114 calls confirmed. Improvements to the port infrastructure including
resurfacing both piers and car park and adding new permanent awnings to provide
shelter from the summer heat for the outside seating areas have all been
undertaken this year.
Looking further ahead plans to build a new 330mtr pier are awaiting approval
from the Ministry of Tourism.
